Was up ’til 4 watching Inception (Christ it’s dope!!!!!!!!! If Marion Cotillard really is Nolan’s Catwoman, i’m very much okkk with this.), but here’s another superheroine cosplay set. This time it’s DC’s Black Canary. We did her Birds of Prey sorority sister Huntress last week, and figured it was about time we attempted Dinah Lance’s superhero alter-ego.
Black Canary is a highly skilled hand-to-hand combatant, has an ultrasonic scream power, and played key roles in various superteams including the JLA [i have no idea if she’s still considered a founding member, but she was at one point (Wikipedia says that’s been retconned since 52; thanks Wikipedia!)], JSA, and the aforementioned Birds of Prey. But her comic book career highlight has to be doing Batman on a rainslicked rooftop in Frank Miller’s brilliant, much maligned All-Star Batman and Robin.
See more pics after the jump. Or not. You decide your own level of involvement.
As high as her profile is in the DCU (and outside the comics as well…she’s shown up on the late, semi-great Birds of Prey series, Justice League Unlimited, Brave and the Bold, and is a recurring character/member of the pseudo JLA on Smallville), Black Canary still doesn’t have a figure in Mattel’s DC Universe Classics action figure line. Blue Devil does have a figure, Black Canary and Huntress don’t. Mattel hates women. Matty Misogynist Mattel.
*update* I’m retarded…there actually is a DC Universe Classics Black Canary, rendering the preceding mini-rant kind of pointless. It was mostly tongue-in-cheek, to begin with, though, so i’ll leave it. And fingers crossed for a new, more Ed Benes-y version of Canary at some point soon…
Like Huntress, Black Canary has been rumored to turn up in Eidos’ upcoming video game sequel Batman: Arkham Asylum 2. I know it’s unlikely, but i’m keeping prayer candles going that Dinah, Helena, or the Casandra Cain Batgirl are unlock-able, playable characters.
Thanks Jessica for wearing it.
