Like everything else in life, there are two ways of looking at this clip from Sandra Bullock’s and Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming The Proposal. The optimistic view: I guess it’s a step forward that mass market romcoms are actually acknowledging that people have genitals. The pessimistic: 12 year olds will see how nakedly pathetic it is that something so stupid (she’s a 45 year old, yet still hot, woman…I don’t care how sitcom contrived her character’s backstory is, she wouldn’t be shocked and surprised by a boner!!!) passes for humor amongst their elders, they will realize our world is theirs for the taking, and rise up Children of the Corn-style.
All that aside, The Proposal actually looks pretty good, and is getting solid word of mouth. It’s out June 19th, but will be playing in advance sneak previews this Saturday night.
