As Sam Mendes has regrettably passed on directing the 24th James Bond film…

James Bond 24

Either one of these guys will do quite nicely, Eon Productions.

I don’t think James Bond has enough of an actual character for either Nolan or Lynch. Both directors like to delve into the psyches of their characters, and Bond – despite what was attempted with Skyfall – is pretty lacking in actual personality or depth. Besides, if Lynch were to direct a Bond film I’d just be disappointed that this was taking time away from doing a film of his own.

MRR- I really have to disagree. Honestly, Nolan’s bat-films were rather a clear trial run for James Bond (hell, even Inception has flourishes from Bond movies). And yeah, I’d really like to see what he could do with a Craig 007 film.

Yeah, Nolan has admitted to the Bond elements in Batman Begins and Inception, and i remember reading him outright saying he wants to direct one…and while MRR is absolutely right about the lack of depth in the material, to date, there’s no reason Skyfall’s attempts to add complexity couldn’t be further built upon?

And Lynch…i want to see him direct anything, but i’ve been on a Dune bender, lately. My admiration for it grows with each viewing, so i’d love to see him do another big scale project like that.

I would like to see either direct as well, but I believe Eon has a strict rule of only allowing British directors for 007. That would rule out Lynch.

Seriously? (*hits the webs*)… eh, five minutes of research didn’t give with an answer. So let’s just assume that’s true: I’m just kinda waiting for Eon to do the obvious and have Matthew Vaughan (who you’ll remember directed Craig in Layer Cake) do one. Or hell, Ridley Scott’s earned his bones a few times over, get him working on the next Bond so maybe he won’t get around to doing that awful Blade Runner sequel he’s been threatening us with for the past couple years…

Rather surprised Michael Winner never had a go at 007.

Don’t know that RSC is right but hey this is pure fantasy so lets just dream. While I’d love to see Nolan direct i’d rather see him joining Christian Bale in that little Batman/Justice League project that seems to be getting some traction (and moneys…) and Lynch would make for an interesting bond, but, of all the names i’ve ever heard saying they want a Bond film the most interesting one is Quentin Tarantino… I’d love to see his treatment of Bond (Though i don’t think anyone else would ever agree)

Ehhh… Tarantino gets thrown into every fan director casting discussion. I’d sure as hell go see a Tarantino 007, but in a remotely realistic way I doubt it would ever happen. He demands way more control than the Broccoli’s would ever allow. In a perfect world where he was given complete control and a decent budget, I would totally look forward to that.

Realistically, I’d like to see what the Edgar Wright/Joe Cornish team could do with it. Unrealistically, I kind of want Takeshi Miike on a Bond film (because that’d sure as hell be more interesting than random British director #24).

Fine, my ultimate unrealistic choice is either John McTiernan or John Milius. Someone would need to break them out of real jail and director jail. Or Nevaldine/Taylor, purely because I want to know what they’d do with a 200 million dollar budget.

While influenced by Bond films, I wouldn’t go so far as to suggest that Nolan’s work has been nothing but a “trial run” to do Bond. If anything I think his work surpassed the Bond films long ago; Skyfall and Casino Royale were great films, but there are a lot of stinkers in the Bond history as well. A lot of fun, perhaps, but not really thought-provoking art. Nolan has taken elements from those films and used them for something better, in my view. In any case, I’ve generally found the ideas in Nolan’s films to be much more engaging than his action scenes, so the prospect of him turning to a series which is built mostly on mindless action doesn’t get me terribly excited. It could be great, and I’d probably make an effort to see it regardless. Just my two cents’ worth.

If we’re going completely unrealistic I’d love to give it a crack though i completely lack the background, ability, talent and everything else required for the role.
Seriously though I know Tarantino is always raised in every discussion of any movie but i think Bond would be a good fit for him… Just imagining a Bond that is part revenge bent Bride, part insanity of Raine, Part the narcisism of Bill, part gung ho Django and just a dash of the comedy of Mr Pink makes me want to make a device to travel to alternate universes where this has occured. Tarantino for Bond and Luc Besson for Star Wars just always seemed right to me, though seeing Lynch take on Return of The Jedi would have been interesting too. I’m just glad im not as insane as i thought being that i’ve never met anyone who thought a Tarantino Bond would be worth a look!
