New alt superheroine cosplay pics, featuring Kat in a set inspired by Top Cow’s freelance assassin robot Aphrodite IX. I’ve never actually read an Aphrodite IX book, my knowledge of the character is limited to skimming her wikipedia entry (anyone like it? should i track down a trade?), but years ago she was the first figure i got out the first Heroclix box i ever bought, and the green hair and skirt that didn’t cover her underwear made an impression.

Per Wikipedia, Aphrodite IX is a gynoid – a robot designed to mimic the apperance and behavior of a human woman (never occurred to me that the term android was gender specific.) Gynoid is also my new favorite word, and i’m using it conversationally as often as possible.
Is a self-loathing robot woman a misogynoid?

Awesome set. I read the first issue of Aphrodite IX back in the day. The art was great, I don’t really remember the story. Seeing as I never bought another issue it must have been terrible because I’d buy almost anything decent with a hot chick in it back then.

Having never read and Aphrodite IX comic, I can’t say with authority that they suck. I can say that every attempt at reading anything from Top Cow tends to end in disappointment- sure the art’s nice, and the coloring is vibrant, but I’m pretty sure I’ve read wittier bathroom graffiti.

You guys sure do make use of them boots and guns. What toy line are those from? They look like Amidala/Padme’s blaster from Episode 1.

Random, rainbow-colored nerf guns from Target spray-painted silver, any resemblance to Padme’s gun was definitely intended.
Expanding arsenal of guns and shoes is a must. Will see how far we can stetch the crowdsourcing monies.

yup, the word android is definitely gender specific as “andro” means male and “oid” means resembling or similar to. so gynoid is the appropriate word for female robots as “gyno” means female. also i always get a chuckle when people call female robots androids instead of gynoids.
