Do your part, and support Watchmen…dammit

The Last House on the Left is expected to perform pretty strongly, this weekend, and I think I know why…it’s got the best use of music in a horror film trailer since High Tension (and, like High Tension, the trailer track probably won’t be heard in the film.)

I hated Wes Craven’s original Last House, it’s a creepy, joyless little fuckup…but the central concept of the lengths normal people will go to extract revenge is a good one. If you do go this weekend, and I might, remember to buy a ticket for Watchmen, instead…don’t make David Hayter sad.

Jesus, if the third Batman will follow the trend of 3 years between films, it’s going to be a saturated market for superhero films in summer 2011…Spider-Man 4 will be out May 6, 2011,  Kenneth Brannaugh’s Thor is due June 17, 2011, and Captain America is now due July 22, 2011. Unofficially, both Fox’s potential reboot of The Fantastic Four and Universal’s adaptation of Gerard Way’s graphic novel The Umbrella Academy have been mentioned as targeting a 2011 release, also. I hope this doesn’t deter Warners/Nolan, as I’ll see all of these (even Spider-Man 4…probably), but the only one I’m dying for is another Batman.

It’s too bad the performance of Watchmen will likely kill any future really dark/brutal/sexy/smart superhero movies, as I think after Summer 2011 the market would be primed for a Marshal Law movie. Fuck Jonah Hex, get Neveldine / Taylor on that, and cast Jason Statham or Michael C. Hall (as it basically would be Dexter, only it’s a superhero hunting superheroes, instead of serial killer on serial killer hate crimes.)

There’s a new episode of Smallville tonight…but unfortunately, it isn’t Hex, the Zatanna episode…that’s 2 weeks away, airing on March 26th, but here are some images of Serinda Swan in the magical fishnets:

That Frank Quitely sure can draw a Batman…and with Grant Morrison writing this new Batman & Robin series, I’ll definitely be buying it ( R.I.P. or no, I’ll always love Morrison’s Batman work.)

Finally, OHMYGOD it’s Christopher Eccleston in a proper Destro mask!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t care what anyone says, I’ll be seeing G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra like 1o or 15x.
