That’s the first shot of Irene Adler, the major curiousity (for me, anyway) of Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes. Rachel McAdams looks like she’s channeling Keira Knightley and Helena Bonham Carter to play the first literary female supervillain, in the character’s first cinematic appearance…unless you count Kim Dickens unofficial portrayl in Zero Effect, and I do.
By most accounts, Ritchie’s Holmes isn’t a direct adaptation of Scandal in Bohemia, Adler’s only (official) appearance in the Holmes stories, so I’m very interested in seeing what they do with her…
This was released as part of the 2009 preview that ran over the Oscar’s end credits last night, which also featured the first moving footage released so far of the Christian Bale/Johnny Depp period gangster drama Public Enemies.
