Humpilates, a 7 1/2 minute spoof on exercise infomercials with a star-studded cast, from last night’s post Oscars Jimmy Kimmel special vs. Humpers, a zero-budget Tim and Eric video from 2006. One is brilliant, the other a bloated, try-hard, chronically unfunny, idea thieving waste of resources designed to be forwarded ad infinitum by humorless office workers…but i do have to give Kimmel points for getting Jessica Biel in spandex.

Ripped off? That seems like a bit of a reach to me. They are vaguely connected in that they both show show people humping, but I wouldn’t say the Kimmel piece is a rip-off. That’s like saying Robot Chicken’s humping robot is derivative just because he humps objects. Or like saying that Tim and Eric ripped of Benny Hill because they had people sneaking around and hiding behind trees.
Mankind has been humping things and giggling at it since the beginning of time. And I would know, because I was there.
As always your mileage may vary.
I just thought the entire video seemed derivative of Tim & Eric’s oeuvre, not just that ancient Humpers vid. From the graphics, the neologisms, the stilted presentation…it was all done much better, many times before, by T&E.
Like a 14 year old who swears off a band the second kroq plays them, i’m just railing against the (inevitable?) mainstreaming of something that used to be niche and unique…
