“Batman” to join Reaper, Torchwood season 3 now filming

Had it not been for the writers’ strike, we may very well have been staring down the barrel of Warner Bros. long-threatened Justice League: Mortal movie being a reality. The man who would’ve played Batman in this Nolan/Bale-free piece, Armie Hammer, has just been announced as a new cast member on the CW’s Reaper.

Armie will play Morgan, the half-brother of Sam, who’ll apparently be sort-of a villain on the show. This is not expected to significantly impact the way I watch Reaper : fast-forwarding anything that isn’t Missy Peregrym or Ray Wise.

On the subject of Ray Wise, this is Sunday night’s Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, the fifth episode of season 3, “C.O.R.B.S.” -easily the best of the season, so far.

If you have any love in your heart for absurdist humor, it is worth your time.

Sort-of related: here’s a couple videos of Megan Gale, long rumored to play Wonder Woman in that same Justice League movie, dressed up as Bettie Page:

After the jump, Torchwood season 3 has a name, and is now shooting. Also, pics of the most perfect action figure ever made…

The BBC websites hate America, and all other countries outside of the UK. If you were able to get into their official Torchwood site, this is what you’d be reading:

“Filming for the third season of Torchwood is underway in Cardiff, Wales, the hit sci-fi series, and Doctor Who spin-off, is scheduled to return in 2009 with the third installment titled Torchwood: Children of Earth.

The new season sees the Torchwood team embarking on a single action-packed adventure as they battle for the future of the human race against the fiercest force they have encountered.

The highly-motivated team is John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper and Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones. Other regular cast involved in their high-octane adventure are Kai Owen as Rhys Williams, Gwen’s husband, and Tom Price as PC Andy.

Special guests in the five part series are Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Thick Of It, Skins), who plays the role of Mr. Frobisher a civil servant who is hiding a terrible secret, Paul Copely (Coronation Street, The Bill) as Clem the survivor still haunted by his past, and Liz May Brice (Bad Girls, The Bill) as Johnson the cynical covert government agent determined to expose Torchwood.

Russell T Davies said, “The new series of Torchwood is hugely bold and promises to be bigger and better than ever the audience is in for an amazing ride. This series is one big serial and the most ambitious story we’ve ever made, and we’ve got plenty of surprises in store.”

Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales, said, “We hope to make Torchwood a gripping and surprising TV event with storylines that push our team into greater danger and sacrifice. Joining our main cast are some fantastic guest artists who will only add to making this unmissable TV.”

On September 16, 2008, BBC Video unleashes to U.S. stores, Torchwood: The Complete Second Season, a fully-loaded 5-disc DVD set with over three hours of bonus features ranging from deleted scenes and outtakes to Torchwood Declassified featurettes and more.

This past April, both Seasons One and Two of Torchwood debuted in the Top 10 for Top TV Seasons on the iTunes Store and continue to be a hit for the online digital store.”

So Torchwood: Children of Earth it is, huh? Interesting. No mention of Mickey, and I guess Martha really has moved on from the Who-verse? Did they kill Tosh and Owen for nothing? I’m seriously okay if they want to take a mulligan on that season finale.

The over-arching plot involves team Torchwood squaring off against “the fiercest force they have encountered.” Peter Capaldi will be playing a character named Mr. Frobisher (Ted Danson?), a civil servant with a dark secret, and Liz May Brice will be playing Agent Johnson, an undercover government operative on a mission to expose Torchwood.

Finally, this is the amazing Hot Toys Bank Robber Joker figure that DC Direct will be importing around Christmas, and I’ll sit through an entire episode of Heroes if it isn’t the most stunning action figure ever sculpted.
